Squadron Cruises

Every year, GIYS organizes four cruises: Spring, Summer, Fall and Mid-winter.  These outings are intended for all ages and types of watercraft.  Some have themes and some don't, but all are tons of fun.

The theme for 2008 is "Chesapeake Rumrunners of the Roaring Twenties".

  • Spring Cruise, Memorial Day Weekend. Saturday, Moonshiner’s Party at The Hanson’s on The Corsica River. Sunday, anchor in Lovely Cove on Langford Creek.
  • Summer Cruise, June 13-22 -- Northern Bay. Click here to see the itinerary.
  • Mini Fall Cruise, Sept 27-28, Rock Hall Fall Festival. The Sailing Emporium has slips reserved for us on Fri. and Sat. Dinghy in from The Sailing Emporium or stay at the Rock Hall Landing.
  • Fall Cruise, Oct 10-13. Still on the drawing table. E-mail your suggestions to Dansmags@yahoo.com by the end of March to be considered by your Cruise Committee’s Special Deluxe Super-Delegates.

The theme for 2007 was John Smith's exploration of the Chesapeake Bay in 1608-09.  John visited us at Great Oak and Chestertown, and we visited him at Jamestown.

The cruise theme for 2006 was lighthouses. Each destination included a tour of a Chesapeake Bay lighthouse or learning about its history.

Mid-winter cruises take place at the Club in winter months, where sailors get together and pine about being on the water. There is either a speaker or a band to play music for dancing and enjoyment. Click on the CALENDAR link above left to see all upcoming events.
